Hunan University is situated at the foot of the picturesque Yuelu Mountain and on the west bank of the rippling Xiangjiang River in the historically and culturally renowned City of Changsha, capital of Hunan Province. It enjoys the title of an "Ancient Millenarian Academy, Famous Centennial University". As one of the key and most comprehensive universities affiliated with the Ministry of Education, it has been included in the state's "Project 211" and "Project 985" for priority investment and construction. Professor Deng Wei is the Secretary of the CPC Hunan University Committee and Professor Duan Xianzhong the President.
The University has Graduate School and 23 colleges and departments. Professional disciplines involve 11 subject categories, namely philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, medicine and arts, which offer 24 first-order disciplines authorized to confer Ph.D. degrees, 36 first-order disciplines authorized to confer Master's degree, 20 professional master’s degree authorizations, and one professional doctorate degree authorization, 2 key first-order disciplines and 14 key second-order disciplines honored at the national level, as well as 25 post-doctoral research programs.
It has a staff of over 4,000 with a faculty of more than 1950, of which, over 1,400 are professors and associate professors, 7 are members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 38 are members of the state's Thousand Talents Program, 20 are members of the state’s Ten Thousand Talents Program. The full-time student body totals nearly 36,000, of which over 20,000 are undergraduates and 15,000 are graduates.
Hunan University is equipped with 2 state key laboratories, 2 national engineering technology research centers, one national-level international research center, one national-level international cooperation base, one state laboratory of engineering, one key discipline laboratory of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, 5 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education.
The University occupies a total area of 1,531,960 square meters with its school buildings covering 1,045,930 square meters. The university library boasts a total collection of over 6.9 million books and 128 TB of digital resources (Chinese and English).
Hunan University, originating from Yuelu Academy founded in 976 A.D. during the Northern Song Dynasty, is the oldest institution in Chinese history, earning it the name "One-Thousand-Year-Old Institution". With 1030 year old history it has transformed from an ordinary ancient academy to a famous modern institute, from a provincial university to a national university, from the "211 Project" to the "985 Project". Hunan University has withstood the tests of time, wars and the reform and readjustment of educational systems, and has always stood erect leading in the formation of China's glorious higher education.

Faculty of Hunan University
Since the beginning of the 21st century, the faculty of Hunan University has witnessed enormous improvement in its structure and a substantial increase in its number of outstanding talents, becoming a highly-qualified teaching group of abundant vigor.
The university has more than 1940 full-time faculty members. The total number of full and associate professors exceeds 1200. Sixty-seven point five percent of the teachers boast doctoral degrees and 23.6% master degrees. Thirty-three percent have been abroad for over one year for research and study, and 72% are under the age of 45.
Among the faculty members of the university, there are currently 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science and the Academy of Engineering, 7 invited-members of both Chinese Academies of Sciences and Engineering, 5 members of the state’s Thousands Talents Program by the Organization Department of the Central Committee, 4 awardees of the National Distinguished Teacher Award, 21 Cheongkong Scholars, 13 gaining the financial support from the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 5 members of the Academic Degree Commission under the State Council, 21 national candidates of the New Century BaiQianWan Talent Project, 12 Lotus Scholars of Hunan Province, 71 New Century Excellent Talents in support programs of the Ministry of Education, and 178 Council Experts for Special Allowance. Moreover, there are 7 innovative teams supported by Program for Cheongkong Scholars and Innovative Research Team in University, and 5 National-level Teaching Groups.

Programs Open to Foreign Applicants
4-Year Undergraduate Program: A diploma and a bachelor’ degree are awarded upon the completion of all required courses and successful thesis-defense.
3-Year Master Program: A diploma and a master’s degree are awarded after the acquisition of full credits and successful thesis- defense. Courses are instructed in both English (international class) and Chinese.
3-Year Doctoral Program: A diploma and a doctoral degree are awarded after the acquisition of full credits and success in both research work and dissertation defense.
General Advanced Study: A certificate will be awarded upon the completion of designated undergraduate courses.
Senior Advanced Study: The applicants, holders of a master degree or above, do research or take courses under the instruction of their supervisors for a period of one year or longer, depending on the actual situation. A certificate of completion is awarded at the end of the period.
Chinese Language Courses: A certificate of completion is awarded upon the successful completion of Chinese language course study.
Chinese Culture Courses: Courses are tailor-made for groups or individuals intending to stay in China for a short period of time either to learn Chinese culture or to have field practice. The subjects involved are Chinese history, culture, language, politics, economics, law, environment, etc. The languages of instruction are Chinese, English, Japanese, and so on. These courses aim at exposing the students to Chinese history, culture and the current situations of China.
Short-term Classes on Huxiang Culture:1-week to 8-week programs which expose students to Huxiang Culture enable them to learn basic Chinese, to experience the profound Huxiang Culture and to enjoy the pleasure to study together with Chinese students. Outdoor activities and visits are arranged besides indoor classes.

1. Highest diploma (notarized photocopy): Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
2. Academic transcripts (notarized photocopy): Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
3. A study or research plan (no less than 800 words, only applicants applying for master should submit it). It must be in Chinese or in English.
4. TwoRecommendation letters (only applicants applying for master should submit it) in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
5. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form and Blood Test Report (Print the 2 pages in the last 2 pages of this announcement, and make health check in any major hospitals in China or your country. The original copy should be kept by the applicant.) The form is filled in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take medical examination as it is valid for only 6 months.
