HNU was founded in 1938, It's locates in Changsha, a famous city with great historical and cultural interests. It has 23 colleges, and offers 71 undergraduate programs, 147 master programs, and 55 Ph.D. programs. Since its founding, the University has educated over 200,000 students, including about 4,000 international students who are from more than 20 countries. Currently, over 35,000 undergraduates, graduates and international students are studying on campus. There are 880 professors and associate professors at the University. The International College of Chinese Language and Culture of this university is specially designed to offer the course of Chinese to the oversea students. Currently more than 130 students who are from over 20 countries are studying here. The university also offers BA, MA, and Ph.D. programs in almost all of subject to the international students. The short-term training programs (from a week to months) for international students or teachers are characteristic and successful, and attract more than 600 students abroad each year. National Teachers College was born in 1938 anti-Japanese war, is China's first independent set of the National Teachers College. At the beginning of the founding of new China, National Teachers College merged into Hunan University. In 1953 August the national faculty adjustment, Hunan University revoked, established the Hunan Normal University and the Central South Civil Engineering Institute. In September 1953, according to the instructions of the Ministry of Education, Hunan Normal College, based on the original National Teachers' College, merged with Hunan University, Nanchang University, Henan Plain Normal College, and Tsinghua University, Hunan University, Nanchang University, Northeast Normal University, South China Normal College, Henan Plain Normal College students, became the national professional set up more than one of the normal colleges and universities. In 1984, the school changed its name to Hunan Normal University. In 1996, became the first batch of "211 Project" key construction university. Since 2000, respectively, merged with the Hunan Institute of Education, Hunan Institute of Politics and Law and Hunan Medical College, a disciplines complete range of teachers, teachers are strong, with the characteristics of teachers, one of the top 100 universities.

Chinese Government Scholarship

This scholarship pays for tuition and incidental expenses, accommodation fee, Comprehensive Medical Insurance, and provides living allowance from 3,000-3,500 Yuan per month. Applicants shall apply to Chinese diplomatic missions or dispatching authorities between January and April every year. Applicants can apply to study as a Senior scholar, General scholar, Chinese language students, or they may pursue their Bachelor's degree, Master's degree and Doctoral degree students.

Confucius Institute Scholarship

This scholarship exempts from tuition and incidental expenses, accommodation fee, comprehensive medical insurance, and provides living allowance from 1,400- 1,900 Yuan per month. Applicants shall apply to Chinese diplomatic missions or Confucius Institutes in their own countries between January and April every year. Applicants can apply to study as a Senior scholar, General scholar, Chinese language students, or they may pursue their Bachelor's degree, Master's degree and Doctoral degree students.

Education Forum for Asia Scholarship

Each year HNU provides five scholarships to Asian countries students. This scholarship exempts tuition fee and registration fees. The applicants can apply through the Chinese embassy or consulate or embassy of their home countries. The application deadline is the end of May of each year. This scholarship can only accept language students.

Provincial Excellent Foreign Student Scholarship

The Provincial Excellent Foreign Students Scholarship is provided by the Hunan Province and is given to the outstanding foreign students. Those students will be rewarded one-year scholarship.

University Excellent Foreign Student Scholarship (by HNU)

The University Excellent Foreign Students Scholarship is provided by HNU and is given to the foreign students who study excellently. Those students who get the scholarships can get the rewards of the exemption of half tuition or full tuition for the next semester or next year.
